Reconstruction of Slovenska cesta in Mengeš

Slovenska cesta in Mengeš is the main route through the centre of the settlement. With the construction of a bypass north and east of Mengeš, a large share of through traffic has already been diverted to the bypass.

Traffic volumes through the settlement centre along Slovenska cesta have decreased; therefore, a modified road cross-section is planned to improve road safety and quality of life in the town, with particular emphasis on arranging pedestrian and cycling traffic.

All municipal utility infrastructure also runs within the existing road and sidewalks; it is likewise worn out and in need of rehabilitation. As part of the Reconstruction of Slovenska cesta project, all municipal utility infrastructure along the section in question will also be reconstructed. The water supply network is deteriorated, resulting in excessive emergency maintenance works. Due to the heavy load from through traffic, the sewer system requires renewal. The utility network will be renewed by its operators in parallel with the arrangement of carriageway surfaces and areas for pedestrians and cyclists. By diverting through traffic to the bypass, Mengeš is offered a unique opportunity for a new traffic arrangement on Slovenska cesta, i.e., in the town centre.
