Preparation of design documentation for the rehabilitation of Petačev Graben
The project concerns the implementation of rehabilitation works following the floods of August 2023 on the Mala Božna in Petačev Graben and its tributary near residential houses in Selo nad Polhovim Gradcem in the Municipality of Dobrova – Polhov Gradec, on an approximately 240 m long section above Polhov Gradec. In August 2023, the Mala Božna reached exceptionally high discharges and caused extensive and devastating flooding. The resulting damage is visible along the banks and on the parcels of existing residential houses. The rehabilitation of all old, worn and damaged structures in the area is planned, including the construction of bank walls and protection works, bank regulation, channel stabilization, and the construction of a new debris barrier on its tributary.
The Mala Božna in Petačev Graben is a torrential tributary of the Gradaščica River, which rises in the Polhov Gradec Hills west of Ljubljana. During the floods (August 2023), it reached exceptionally high discharges and caused extensive and devastating flooding. In the project area (approx. 240 m) in Petačev Graben, significant damage occurred to the existing water infrastructure adjacent to existing residential buildings.
The entire section of the Mala Božna runs alongside an existing public road. Most of the section under consideration (approx. 80 m) runs alongside existing residential houses, which are protected from the channel by concrete walls and rock revetment. The existing walls are visibly damaged, the foundations have been undermined, and major erosion scours are visible near the structures. Upstream of the building at Selo nad Polhovim Gradcem 5A, the water washed away part of the bank and also completely destroyed the existing reinforced-concrete wall. The connection between the existing houses and the public road is provided by an existing culvert/bridge. The channel is visibly incised.
The rehabilitation of all old, worn and damaged structures in the project area is planned, namely: construction of a new channel invert on the Mala Božna tributary, from the new debris barrier to the confluence; bank protection with riprap set in concrete, with intermediate bed and stepped sills. Bridge rehabilitation is not part of the project.
The project “Reconstruction of LC-401091 and JP-567701 through Petačev Graben in the Municipality of Dobrova – Polhov Gradec (post-flood rehabilitation)” is currently under construction, commissioned by the Municipality of Dobrova – Polhov Gradec. The works also include protection of the right bank with riprap set in concrete, which our project ties into.
