Maks Fabiani Award for the LUZ60 monograph
The Ljubljana Urban Planning Institute received the Maks Fabiani Award for 2023 for the LUZ60 monograph.
The biennial Maks Fabiani Award and commendations are presented by the Association of Urbanists and Spatial Planners of Slovenia (DUPPS), in cooperation with the Maks Fabiani Foundation, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Spatial Planning of the Republic of Slovenia, and the Municipality of Komen.
Excerpt from the jury’s statement of reasons:
“With the publication of the LUZ60 monograph, Slovenia’s professional urban planning community has gained a clear account of the conceptual and technical development of urban planning activity in the narrower Ljubljana area and beyond. Across many generations, LUZ has always played the role of an important factor in spatial and urban planning.”
And further:
“It is evident that urban planning activity, planning, and the urban planning profession in the Slovenian context have each time had a substantially different role, depending on the social and cultural environment; this becomes particularly clear through the successful division into three twenty-year periods. In this sense, this ‘cross-section’ of LUZ’s urban planning activity is also a contribution and a guide for in-depth reflection on the future course of spatial governance and on the directions that will be ‘permitted’ in the democratization of sustainable use and sustainable development.”
As part of the 11th Brumen Biennial of Slovenian Design, the monograph also received a Brumen Commendation for excellent Slovenian design.
